A group exhibition that deals with the influence of challah, the Jewish Sabbath bread, on Israeli culture. Dozens of featured artists share their vision of challah, and the creations inspired by it, will be hosted at ANU – Museum of the Jewish People for a 3 week only exhibition.

“Hafrashat challah – an ancient mitzvah with roots in the Torah – goes beyond the technical act of removing a piece of dough before baking. It represents our intimate connection to the earth, to wheat, to daily bread. It symbolizes abundance and blessing, weekly renewal. Beyond that, it is a focus for family gatherings, for singing and blessing, as over the generations Jewish women have passed this tradition down from generation to generation, giving it new meaning in each new period,” says the exhibition’s curator, Dr. Guy Morag Tzepelewitz.

The exhibition will feature dozens of male and female artists, sharing their vision of the challah and their subsequent creations with the public, as well as the installation “Maybe a Dove Will Come” by artist Ilan Peled. The exhibition attempts to expose the audience to a fascinating aspect of Jewish tradition and encourage an in-depth discourse on identity, culture, and the
and heritage.
Among the participants: Nomi Abeliovich, Vered Aharonovitz, Lilach Bar-Ami, Matan Elyakim, Nastya Faybish, Kobi Golan, Cochavit Ben Ezra Goldenberg, Shmuel Goldstein, Keren Ifrah, Dana Goor Keren, Sharon Leshem Morad, Debi Morag, Sagit Zluf Namir, Eden Ohana, Rani Pardes, Galia Hilli Pasternak, Ilan Peled, Liora Shirer Saar, Keren Spilsher, Sivan Sternbach, Aya Talshir, Arik Weiss and more.

Please note: The exhibition is open to the general public November 14-15, as well as on Saturdays. Private events are occasionally held in the gallery during the week. Please check the museum’s website or WhatsApp at: 03-5008080.
